Expertise

Born in Cologne, I started my career as a lawyer in a Berlin law firm with a focus on press and media law. After completing an LL.M. in San Francisco and gaining some experience in international data protection consulting, I now practice law in Germany and the USA. In addition, as an adjunct professor of law, I teach data protection law at the law school of the University of California, San Francisco, the most traditional law school on the West Coast.

As a passionate football referee, law is first and foremost a question of fairness for me. Admitted to the bar in Berlin and California, I have personal as well as professional experience with challenging issues with an international dimension. My approach is to find solutions tailored to the individual case. I do not shy away from creative ideas, but at the same time I attach great importance to reliable concepts. It is important for me to listen carefully. Content counts more than mere form, and a correctly outlined problem is already half solved.

My professional focus is on data protection and technology. Beyond that, however, I am also passionate about competition and press law and am equally happy to answer questions related to copyright and media law. I advise on all areas of Californian and German law and am happy to assist in the development of compliance strategies.

Science & Research

During my early days in California, I assisted Prof. Dr. Lothar Determann with research for his standard work on California privacy law, “California Privacy Law” (Fifth Edition). In this context, the opportunity arose to independently create and teach a completely new form of online course at UC Law SF (formerly UC Hastings), the most traditional law school on the West Coast.

As a result, I have been an Adjunct Professor of Law at UC Law SF since September 2023. My teaching provides highly practical knowledge in the field of international data protection based on a stable legal foundation. This approach is based on my personal experience that abstract legal knowledge alone will not get you far in such an interdisciplinary field.
