Film and Broadcasting Law

An industry in transition: A craft with a future

Legal advice in the film, radio and television industries has been shaped in recent years by major changes in viewing and listening habits. Linear television has lost its importance. Media libraries, streaming and new exploitation platforms have long since become the standard. Funding structures are being reformed, cross-media formats and playout channels are overlapping with other industries, AI is making its way into filmmaking. We support you in the exciting challenge of not losing sight of quality assurance and craftsmanship standards in all of this.

Film

In the film sector, we advise and represent you comprehensively in all relevant areas from development and production to exploitation. In addition to aspects of contract law, company law and copyright law, we also take into account insolvency law and tax law aspects. In the latter area, we work with specialised cooperation partners.

We are also happy to accompany your entire project, starting with financing and funding, drafting contracts and negotiating international co-productions, rights clearing and purchasing formats or scripts, right through to employment contracts with the various parties involved in the production process. For the exploitation phase, we draw up customised distribution, licensing or merchandising contracts.

Radio and television

The broadcasting sector is characterised by national and European media regulation. The German regulations of the Interstate Broadcasting Treaty and the state media laws have recently undergone various changes against the background of the expansion of offerings to the internet and mobile applications. In addition to advising on day-to-day business on questions of licensing, frequency allocation, advertising, protection of minors and contract drafting, we are also available to provide expert opinions on the specifics of broadcasting law.
